Southwest Florida Regional Imaging Initiates PET/CT Services in Charlotte County
PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA-November 10, 2005- (News) Southwest Florida Regional Imaging Center began PET/CT service to the Charlotte County medical community today with the installation of a General Electric 16 slice PET/CT machine. The service brings Charlotte County one of the best diagnostic tools available in cancer detection, Alzheimer's disease and understanding cardiac functionality. PET/CT services can determine physiologic function compared to just anatomic structures. Therefore, patients can now get results to see if there is more than one tumor site, whether the cancer chemotherapy has been effective against the disease and find out if there has been any recurrence in extremely sensitive detail. Through the use of PET/CT in clinical following, cancer survivors and their physicians now have a tool available to detect the initial stage of a reoccurrence or set the post cancer patients mind at ease with a clear scan. This sensitivity can be far in advance of finding these answers after a tumor has already grown to more dangerous proportions. Improvements in cancer survival rates have been regularly credited with early detection combined with swift effective treatment. PET/CT is many times, the primary tool to make those diagnosis and treatment decisions.
